Disaster
Relief Fraud:
- A deception deliberately practiced in order to secure unfair or unlawful
gain.
- A piece of trickery; a trick.
- One that defrauds; a cheat.
- One who assumes a false pose; an impostor.
Government Code 8654
8654. (e) Any person who fraudulently makes any misstatement of fact in
connection with an application for financial assistance under this
section shall, upon conviction of each offense, be guilty of a
misdemeanor punishable by a fine of not more than five thousand
dollars ($5,000), or imprisonment for not more than one year, or
both.
